Running: The Best Weight Loss Exercise

When it comes to what is the best weight loss exercise, there have been many different exercises that can be considered logical candidates to the crown. However, of all the exercises that are recommended, quite possibly the exercise that truly attacks fat deposits would be the venerable favorite: running. Bar none, running burns the most calories and annihilates stored fat more effectively than any other aerobic or anaerobic exercise.

The reason for this is that running burns the maximum amount of calories in the minimum amount of time. Running for twenty minutes will probably burn more calories than over one solid hour of walking. Plus, running helps stimulate muscle growth as opposed to time duration based exercises such as walking which may lead to the burning of muscle when the duration of the exercise extends to a significant amount of time.

Another reason that running is the best weight loss exercise is the fact that running helps stimulate the metabolism to burn more fat. By stimulating the metabolism to burn up more calories, weight less can continue over to a period of time when a person is not even working out.

If that is not an endorsement for being the best weight loss exercise, it would be difficult to find what is.

What if a person is not in the condition or shape to run? The wisest thing to do in a situation like this is to simply walk, jog and run in small interval doses. Or, spend the bulk of the time walking with an occasional jog or sprint tossed in to burn up a few extra calories. Running is an endurance based exercise – and is one of the best weight loss exercise types -- so it would be wise to slowly work up to the endurance level needed to do the exercise effectively. It takes a bit of time, but it is ultimately worth it.
