Body Weight Loss Exercises

When people think of strength training, people will usually think of lifting heavy weights or pumping iron. Granted, this is not an uncommon image in people’s minds because it is an incredibly popular form of weight training, however, there is another means of strength training that does not require lifting heavy weights. These weight loss exercises are called ‘body weight exercises’ and do not require any external devices.

Body weight, weight loss exercises involve high rep variants on traditional push ups, squats, neck bridges and other common exercises. These can build a tremendous physique, albeit one not as bulky as a body builder physique, but for losing weight and getting in shape, these are great weight loss exercises.

There is a bit of controversy when it comes to body weight exercises as many people believe that they do not make very good strength building exercises but are more suited for muscular endurance. Perhaps. However, it is doubtful that a ton of pushups and body squats will not make a person stronger nor is it doubtful that they will turn out to be excellent weight loss exercises if there are performed consistency.

Many times, many people prefer body weight exercises because they do not involve the purchase or lugging around of any equipment. This type of exercise program can be fit into any schedule and is even convenient for people who spend a great deal of time on the road. There are no gym memberships required. All that is required is the motivation to perform these weight loss exercises with consistency and vigor.

It is suggested, however, to add traditional dumbbell and barbell training to the mix. This will add on some additional muscle mass that will aid in speeding up metabolism. However, the body weight exercises can still be considered excellent weight loss exercises on their own.
